Trinitas Mundus - Episode 3

　Rei wondered how easily he could have ridden his horse and wondered what the situation was like now. Regardless of those thoughts, the horse kept him on it and walked down the mountain path. After an hour or so, the view that had been blocked by the trees suddenly opened up and they finally made their way through the deep, dark forest.

　And below him was the most beautiful landscape he had ever seen.

 

　There, among the forests and hills, are lakes of various sizes, their surfaces reflecting the green of the forest and shimmering in the sunshine with a jade color.

 

　He couldn’t help but stop his horse’s pacing, and for a while he was fascinated by the scenery.

 

 

“What a beautiful …… I’ve never seen such a beautiful landscape before.”

 

　He couldn’t help but say it out loud.

 

　The baron heard his voice as he stopped the carriage as it passed through the forest.

 

 

“No doubt. My country and my domain are beautiful as seen from here. You understand that, don’t you, Ray-dono? All the way down.”

 

　The baron feels good about his country’s praise and gives him a big smile.

 

 

“Yes, I’ve never seen such beautiful scenery before. It’s really beautiful….“

 

　He was admiring the scenery, almost muttering to himself.

 

 

(In the setting it was Lux, the land of lakes and springs. I was supposedly writing around the adventurer’s city of Pericritor, so I was only describing it as a beautiful country. But I didn’t realize it was so beautiful …… but I can’t describe this landscape with my description).

 

 

　Ashley had been listening to their conversation.

 

 

( Though it’s still dangerous …… apparently they’re not very tense men. I’m going to have to take precautions on my own. It’s not worth it. ……)

 

“It’s still dangerous and we must hurry on. Ray-dono, it’s okay to admire the scenery but stay alert.”

 

　She lets out a sigh and urges them to proceed.

 

 

　After a slow descent down the pass, after two hours or so, they enter a hilly area.

 

　The sun was quite low, but it was still two hours away from night.

 

 

“If we’ve come this far, we’re good now. Excellency, we will take a break. Edward-dono, would you please park the carriage in that square?”

 

　Ashley instructs Edward, the steward who is the coachman, and he himself takes the horses into the meadow by the side of the road.

 

 

(Finally a break huh …… My body isn’t as tired as I thought it would be, but I’m mentally tired. By the way, what’s going to happen to me after this?)

 

 

　Ray finally gets into the safe zone and realizes that he hadn’t thought about how he was going to conduct himself.

 

　There is no money, no food, and no evidence of identity – such as bracelets with personal information written on them – has been found.

Since I saved the Baron, they might be able to do something about it, but once the direct danger to myself leaves, the next thing I’ll probably think about is whether I won’t be a danger factor. An unidentified man who easily annihilated two dozen bandits and used suspicious magic. A normal lord would be hesitant to let them into the city, even if they saved his life……).

 

　He dismounted and sat down on the grass and was alone in his pensive thoughts.

　For the first time, he realizes that even Ashley, who he thought had plenty of leeway, has been forced to be quite nervous.

“Yeah, I’ll do the same. I’m wondering what I’m going to do now. I don’t have any memories, I don’t have any money or anything to show for my identity, so I’m wondering what I should do. ……”

 

“If it’s money, you’ll get it. The bounty for the bandits and the guild of mercenaries will give us a large cut of the fee. The man who attacked the Baron was a sellsword registered to the guild.“

 

　He tried to remember the world setting.

 

 

(As I recall, the magic crystal stone was set up to be the soul itself, right? This is how you can find out about the adventurer’s guild’s proof of defeat and the loyalty of the mercenaries. I don’t mean to say it myself, but what a convenient setting …… And the magic crystal stone sells for a lot of money. This is because it is an ingredient in magic tools. A human magic crystal stone is at least 10 krona or 10,000 yen each. Even if we split it up, that’s still 100,000 yen alone, so that’s enough to fund the immediate future.)

 

　In the world setting he came up with, the currency is C krona and one krona is one small silver coin, or about one thousand yen in Japanese yen. Incidentally, the currencies are, from the largest to the smallest, white gold = 1,000 krona, gold = 100 krona, silver = 10 krona, small silver = 1 krona, copper = 0.1 krona = 10 aere, and small copper = 1 aere. Other coins include a large gold coin equal to five gold coins and a half silver coin worth half the value of a silver coin.

 

 

　As Ashley and he were talking about such things, Edward, the butler, came to call him.

 

 

“Please excuse me. The master of the house wants to see Ray-sama.“

 

　Ray follows him, wondering what’s going on.

 

 

　Baron Athley and his daughter, Oriana, were waiting outside the carriage.

 

 

“My daughter wishes to thank you, Ray-dono. I’m sorry, but will you listen to her?“

 

　Ray hadn’t had a good impression of the Baron’s bad taste in clothes and his small, fat appearance. However, he was changing his impression from the way he thought of his daughter.

 

 

(I thought he seemed like a villainous aristocrat who got screwed over for some reason, but maybe he’s a surprisingly nice guy. He doesn’t seem pompous to me either ……)

 

 

　He replied, “I understand,” and turned his head towards the girl standing beside the baron.

 

　The girl, still recovering from the shock, was lying on her back.

 

 

“My name is Oriana Athley . I would like to thank you for your help. If Ray-sama isn’t there, …… ugh.“

 

　She had just said that much when she remembered the scene of being dragged out of the carriage, tears in her eyes, and she was at a loss for words. The Baron held her by the shoulders, but she was sobbing.

 

　He feels like he needs to say something, but the words won’t come out.

 

　A silence passes between them.

 

(I suppose it would be nice if I could say something witty, but I’m not very good at socializing …… if Ryuji is around.)

 

 

　He remembered his only friend, Ryuji, Narumi Ryuji.

 

　Ryuji was the complete opposite of Rei, a good-looking guy in his view of a social and athletic guy, but for some reason, he was the rare person who was willing to be friends with the reclusive guy.

 

　He wondered how he would have handled this situation, thinking that his friend would be able to handle such a situation with tact.

 

 

“I’m glad Oriana-sama is safe. I think it’s better to forget about things like that ……”

 

　In the end, he manages to make a follow-up, with something tapering.

 

　Oriana nodded, holding back tears, and walked into the carriage with the Baron holding her by the shoulders.

　As they continued on the road again, farmland began to gradually spread out, and farmhouses could be seen in the midst of the idyllic farming community.

 

　The house is European in style, rustic with stark white walls made of white stone with plaster and a black slate roof, but it contrasts beautifully with the green forest.

 

　The peasants’ clothes also seem to be made of yellow and red dyed wool, which is quite colorful.

 

 

(It must be a rich land all around. There’s plenty of water, and the soil seems to be fertile. I’ve seen sheep , cows and pigs. I don’t remember much of the setting around here, but the food seems manageable.)

 

 

　He was beginning to feel more comfortable with the fact that he had come to safe land and after hearing Ashley’s opinion that he was going to be able to handle it financially.

 

　He lines up alongside Ashley to get information about this world.

 

 

　This is the Barony of Athley in the Lux Kingdom of the United Kingdom of Lux Saltus, west of the continent of Tria.

 

　In addition to the United Kingdom of Lux Sartus, there are the Kaelum Empire in the south and the Kingdom of Kaum in the east, and these three countries have a long history and are called the Three Old Nations. The other two relatively large countries are the Kingdom of Luke’s Holy Kingdom and the Kingdom of Zilsor, which are independent from the Kaelum Empire, and there is also a country called the Union of City States, which has the adventurer’s homeland of Pericritor, the mercenary’s homeland of Fortis, as well as mercantile and academic cities under its umbrella.

　Regarding weights and measures, one melt is one meter in length, one semel is one centimeter, and one chimel is one kilometer.

 

　The weight is one g gran = one gram, one kg kigran = one kilogram, and one T ton is the same as in the original world, both in terms of name and weight.

 

 

　As for the races, the Lux Kingdom is dominated by the human race, the so-called human race, and about 70% of them are human. The others are 20 percent elves and 10 percent beastmen. The Kaum Kingdom and others have a lot of dwarves, while the Saltus Kingdom has a lot of elves. In the further east of the Kaum Kingdom, there is an area dominated by the demon race called ‘Quaedam Tenebre’ Eternal Darkness.

 

 

(The story I’ve heard so far is exactly as I described in my novel ‘Trinitas Mundus’. I think it was at about the same time as the novel, but I can’t remember the details of the story. It’s like my memory is blocked in some way……).

 

 

　He continued down the street, talking with Ashley, and when it was evening, about an hour after the break, a large city came into view up ahead.

 

　The city – Malton, the largest city in Baron Athley’s territory, stood on top of a small hill, a large mansion with a triangular spire standing at the top of the hill. Ray had perceived that it was probably the baron’s mansion.

 

　A wall about five meters high has been built around the city and the street leads to a large gate.

 

　They arrived at the gate about thirty minutes after the city began to come into view.
