I'm an Adventurer! ~Musou Skill is Plane Magic~ (web version) - Episode 41
Me and Cristella were swayed in a carriage heading west, with the great forest on our left. Our destination was the adventurer’s city of ‘Dalton’.
The morning after the imperial envoy arrived, the village chief went off to war. Two male bachelor slaves accompanied him as followers.
I was asked to train the villagers, but in the end, 12 of them, including my father and mother, were able to perceive the magic power. Only Pa and Mom are still in the process of strengthening their bodies, but I’m sure they’ll all be able to use it eventually. Even if the village chief is not present, there is no need to worry about the protection of the village.
That’s why I have no reason to stay in the village, so I decided to head to Dalton, which I had been thinking about as one of my destinations for some time.
But when it came time to leave for the trip, Cristella stubbornly refused to take the plane. Cristella’s fear of heights seems to be quite severe. We had no choice but to take a horse and carriage on the land route. No, as a matter of fact, it’s not exactly a carriage and it’s not rocking.
A jet-black box carriage pulled by a heavily armed horse that covered its entire body with gossamer armor. At first glance, it looks like a high-class carriage owned by a nobleman, but this horse and the box carriage were all made with my plane magic. I can see the horse’s eyeballs and skin through the gaps in the armor, but even that was made with magic, and only the part that can be seen from the outside. It’s actually empty. There is nothing inside.
The big wheels on the carriage are spinning nimbly, but none of the wheels are actually touching the ground. The wheels are floating about 3 cm off the ground, and they are just turned to make it look as if it is running. It is a dummy.
My plane magic is too good to be excellent, but I still can’t use soft binding (a function to make it deform softly). That’s why I couldn’t recreate springs and joints, so I couldn’t create a suspension or a horse’s body. The armor and dummy wheels were a painful solution. It was a happy miscalculation, though, as the swaying was eliminated by floating the body of the horse, making it more comfortable to ride.
The horse is not the one pulling the carriage, and the wheels are just for decoration, so technically the carriage is not a carriage, and it’s not even being shaken.
The reason why i went to this extent to make it appear as if it was a carriage is to hide my magic. It’s a disguise. They are camouflaged to be inconspicuous in order to prevent aristocrats and nations from finding out that i am a wizard. I’m not sure if the boxed carriage of a heavily armed horse is inconspicuous or not, but it’s better than any other means of magic.
I’m not sure It need a coachman, but I’m sitting in the coach’s seat because I wanted to enjoy the journey. There are no reins, so from the outside it looks like I’m really just sitting there. Cristella wanted to sit next to me too, but I let her train in the carriage for physical strengthening. She’ s getting much smoother and able to manipulate her magic power, but it’ s still very weak. If she”s going to be adventuring with me in the future, she needs to become a little stronger.
At first glance, I’m just sitting there, but I’m actually examining the new features of plane magic even while I’m doing this.
The newly released feature is the ‘Camera View’. This function creates a virtual camera and projects the image from that perspective onto my field of view. It’s a feature that is commonplace in any 3DCG tool, and it’s not just the most basic of basics, it’s a feature that I can’t argue with even if it’s not there. It’s amazing that I couldn’t use it until now. It’s a really basic function, so I’ve tried it when I was an infant who had just learned to use plane magic, but I couldn’t use it at that time. That’s why I thought I wouldn’t be able to use it for a long time as it was, but when I noticed, I was able to do it. What on earth was the condition of releasing it? I have no idea.
This camera can be moved at will by me, and I can move it pretty far. At the moment, I’d say it’s roughly 2 km away. Also, this camera is invisible and doesn’t physically exist, and it can slip through walls and rocks. It can’t penetrate the body of a human or monster. I don’t want to see raw internal organs, but this isn’t a problem. Probably, it means that I can’t slip through a place that is dense with magical elements. I’m pretty sure it slipped through the wooden planks, but not the standing trees, so I’m pretty sure it’s not a problem.
To put it bluntly, it’s a bad feature that allows you to peek in all you want. I won’t, though. I want to.
Right now, that camera is looking down on me from about a thousand meters above me. From this distance, I’m barely a speck in the sky. Humans are so tiny. All I can see is the terrain in about 2 km square. It’s just like goo-goo earth… hmm? Goo-goo? I don’t know, maybe I could make a map?
My plane magic has a ‘snapshot’ function that cuts out images in my field of view and saves them. The clipped footage is saved as a texture in the library, and when combined with this camera, it is possible to recreate a flat surface… or rather, a gigantic sphere, a true goo-goo earth, isn’t it? No, it’s not a ground. Maybe it’s not even a ball. What if there’s an elephant holding up a tray?
I tried it out and got a snapshot of it without a hitch… oh, another badass ability!
Given the level of civilization in this world, a map is probably a military secret. Information on the location of important bases, roads, production sites, etc. should never be known to other countries, and if they knew the topographical information, they would be able to predict the route of the march. In fact, even in the original world, maps were not made available to the public until modern times. Moreover, my snapshot is unusually accurate. The maps made with them are truly a top military secret. If the country hears about this, at best I’ll be locked up, at worst I’ll be enslaved and turned into a cartography machine. It’s a mess.
If not, it’s a clairvoyant who can do whatever I wants with it. This is convenient, but it can’t be known for sure. However, I have no intention of hiding it from Cristella as well. If I don’t let my friends know of my abilities, they might be in danger when the time comes. But it’s impossible if I have an ordinary adventurer who can’t compel secrets with me as a companion. The risk is too high. From now on, I’m going to have to choose slaves as my only choice when adding friends. It can’t be helped.
By the way, when I’ m looking at it from this camera’s point of view, my original view is blocked, just like switching viewpoints on a DVD or BD. It is like looking away in a grand manner, and you shouldn’t really be doing this while driving a carriage. In fact, the front right wheel of the carriage made contact with a stone that was about 10 cm off the ground and bounced off the ground in a great deal. It didn’t break or overturn, but I heard Cristella’s scream from behind. I reflected on it and returned to my perspective.
“What happened !?”
A flustered Kristella asks from the carriage. I think I startled her a bit. Reflection.
“No, I was just looking away for a moment and I stepped on the stone. I’m sorry.”
“Is that so. I thought it was a monster that was attacking us.“
“Oh, that’s about to happen.”
“Look, there’s orc up there, right?“
To the left of the carriage, about two hundred meters away, we can see three orc rushing towards us.
“What are we going to do? I’ll help you in any way I can if you want to fight!”
Cristella is in a panic. Do we speed up a bit and get away? No, come to think of it, Cristella hadn’t had any real combat experience yet. If you’re a man, they say you’re a virgin, but if you’re a woman, you’re still a virgin, right? Just in time, let’s have this orc be our first partner. An ex-lady and a boar. Not “Kukk, kill me”, but “Kukkoro”, as in “Kukkaku, kill me”.
“Now let’s see how well you’ve done with your physical training, I’ll take care of two of them, you take care of the other one.“
“I-I understand! Please leave it to me!”
Slowly we stop the wagon and prepare to intercept the orcs. We get out of the wagon and each draw our weapons and wait for them to approach us. I hold the sword machete in my right hand and lower it down lazily. Cristera draws her fine sword with her right hand and bends her knees slightly, holding it halfway up. It’s the same stance as in training, but the movements are somewhat stiff. Since this is her first real battle, she must still be nervous.
“You’ll be fine. Just do what you have trained. You’re not as fast or as sharp as my dad.“
Real cheat dad learned to strengthen his body and became really strong. He’ s even able to fight at least a big clawed bear on his own, more than even. It’s also head-on. Cristella had been training with that dad while she was in the village, so she should be able to fight an orc or so.
“That’s right. Calm down for the time being … Yes, first of all, the balance magic!”
With the physical strengthening and training with Dad, Cristella’s magic power had increased considerably. It was probably about 1.5 times higher than when we first met. The efficiency of her usage also seemed to have increased, and she rarely ran out of magic power anymore. So, as training for full-blown combat, I decided to make her get into the habit of investigating the strength of the opponent with balance magic first. Once the strength of the opponent is known, the battle can proceed with some advantage.
“… their weight is too heavy compared to their muscle strength. Their magic also less powerful than your father.”
“Right? As long as you’re careful, you’ll be fine, just stay calm and deal with it.”
“Yes! Please leave it to me!”
In the meantime, the orcs had already approached about twenty meters away, and I could see that all three of them were carrying clubs with large logs cut out of them. They were coming towards us in a vertical line, whether they intended to or not. They may just have different foot speed, though. So, shall we move too?
“Take care of the first one! I’ll take care of the two behind it!”
Saying that, I charge in from the front. It’s an all-out sprint using body strengthening. In the blink of an eye, the distance between us disappears.
The boar in front of me seems to be in a bit of a panic because of my speed, but he matches the timing and swings the club down from above. It’s a good decision and a quick reaction.
I apply a sudden brake as soon as the club is out of reach. The tip of the club passes right in front of me and hits the ground. I stepped on that club with my left foot and then stepped on the boar’s nose with my right foot and jumped over it.
The trampled orc cries out. “You used me as a stepping stone!” I guess that’s about it.
The second orc looks up at me, flying high in the air, with a surprised look on its face. It’s completely defenseless.
I’m going to use the momentum of the fall to stab it as hard as I can into the middle of its dumb face, right between the eyes, using the sword machete that I re-hold with both hands in my reverse hand. One of them first.
While stepping on the collapsing orc’s shoulders and pulling out the sword machete, I jump to the left this time. The club of the orc who was at the tail end of the space I was in a moment ago is going to pass through. It’s a pretty good speed. It could have been a fatal wound if it hit. It doesn’t hit, though.
After landing and gaining some distance, I check out Cristella’s condition with a sideways glance.
Half poised, Cristera continues to move back and forth, back and forth, side to side, never stopping. She stepped out a little bit to trigger the boar’s attack, and then thrust or slash at the gap that made her swing out of the way with the tip of her sword. By repeating this process, she is accumulating damage little by little. It would take care of itself as soon as she hit a weak point, but she didn’t have that much skill yet, so it’s no use. It doesn’t matter if it takes time. As long as she wins, that’s all that matters.
The physical strengthening is going smoothly. It’s even better than in training. It seems that Cristella is the type of person who can thrive in a real fight. She should be OK.
When I returned my attention to the other orc, it was about to swing its club at me. I back-stepped and ducked. Dangerous, dangerous.
I want to have enough leeway to cover Cristella, so I’m going to let this one settle down quickly as well.
Stomping on the club that struck the ground with an empty swing, I cut off the right hand (forefoot?) that held it with the sword machete.
The boar screamed and sprawled out in pain. It ends with a sword machete slamming into its defenseless medulla oblongata. It’s quick and easy.
I guess I’ll just have to keep an eye on Cristella. Let’s see, let’s have a look at her.
About five minutes later, it looks like it’s about to be settled. The orc who is dealing with Cristella is covered in blood all over. It must have lost a lot of blood, and its movements are quite slow. It is also wobbling on its feet. Cristella avoids the swing of the club, which is clearly slower than the first, with plenty of room to spare, and thrusts the final blow into its neck. With that blow, which probably reached the medulla oblongata, the orc slowly fell down and stopped moving.
“I-I did it! I was able to defeat the monster on my own!”
For the first time, Cristella was skipping for joy and delight. Yeah, she’d be cute, if she wasn’t covered in blood and carrying a blade. In the meantime, we need to find a watering hole.
