Free Life ~Record of the Struggle of a Different World General Merchant~ - Chapter 4
Oh, it’s over. Yay, it’s finally over…!
With wounds all over my body, I opened the door to my house at 23:00. It’s 23:00 and I’m returning home three hours after I was due for the original request.
“Those bastards…! They only run away when you go for a walk with me…!”
Mrs. Harold has a total of 18 dogs. When they go for a walk with their master, they strut around like a well-organized army. However, when I take them for a walk, they would run off in different directions and escape into the nature park in the upper district.
Although, having nobleman’s status would prevent me from being punished for having dogs without a leash, the dogs use the advanced technique of pulling their heads out of their collars to escape. They do this because when the collar is tightened too much, Mrs. Harold’s lightning strikes, claiming that I’m trying to choke her pets. As a result, they are always allowed to escape. Here’s the dilemma.
Today was supposed to be a one-hour walk, but ended up being three hours of dog-catching drama. I shuddered as the dogs got better and better at escaping day by day.
After the walk (Mrs. Harold was delighted that the dogs were happy to get such a good workout), the next step was hard physical labor. Moreover, because of the walk, I missed the start of my next job and was sent to the hardest part of the day (repair work outside the walls).
“The king doesn’t like drafty holes in the wall~! And we were able to withstand a small swarm of monsters that suddenly attacked us… although I almost passed out when they demolished the area we had just repaired.”
At any rate, the entire list of today’s work was finally completed. I can sleep as long as I want. Don’t let anyone get in my way….
“….You are back late, master.”
“Why are you still awake?”
At night on “Earth,” where entertainment is scarce, everyone goes to sleep quickly. The only people who stay awake are drunks or eager academics. Naturally, I thought that the servants in this shop were the same.
”….There is no way I would sleep before my master.”
“Well, no, no, it’s okay. If you go to bed first.”
Inwardly, I was like, “I still have a job! I’m a bit freaked out by this.
“Well, what is it? Do you have something to say to me?”
“…get to bed quickly. I can’t sleep.”
“Oh, oh that’s it? Are you sure? You’re not going to talk about the request or…? Really?”
“I don’t like it.”
I get down on my knees and say sorry to the girl who has an unwaveringly strict gaze. But what fills my chest is joy.
(Oops! I didn’t ask for this! That’s what I hope to be in the future…)
It’s a joy to be a bad person.
“Well, good night. I’ll sleep till noon tomorrow.”
After saying that, I cheerfully opened the door to my room.
”…Tomorrow is the day you have to work at the school, master.”
Apparently, my fondness for self-depravity and a healthy working life was not over yet.
